JAMES HANNAH SMYTHE April 2, 1941 - February 14, 2008 Loving husband, father and grandfather, James Smythe passed away at St. Boniface Hospital of congestive heart failure. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Ursula, children, Deborah and Christopher (Stephanie), brother Eneas, and grandchildren, Olivia, Nicolas, Clara and Julia. Born to Eneas and Marguerite Smythe in Winnipeg, Jim was a miracle baby, surviving a birth weight of 1 lb. 12 oz. and the doctors' predictions that he would not last the night. For 34 years, Jim was a dedicated high school teacher in Transcona - Springfield School Division, where he was a favourite of staff and students. Jim was a thoughtful family man whose interests included politics, wildlife conservation, and sports. Among friends, he remains the undisputed Trivial Pursuit champion. Jim had a gentle sense of humour and a special affinity for children and dogs. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., with reception to follow. If desired, donations in Jim's memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or an animal shelter. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Dear Ursula and children: So very sorry to hear about Jimmy. Even though we didn't see each often we are nevertheless affected by the loss. May you find comfort in family and friends at this very sad time, he died too young, but he's with my Dad, Johnny now and his Mom and Dad and they are dancing in the Shamrocks in heaven! Anna, Gordon, Stanley, Kelly, all of us I will speak for them all in case they don't know how to do this online greeting. Love and hugs to you and the children. Sincerely Anna - Posted by: Anna Anderson (Family) on: Feb 18, 2008
